This enigmatic piece has been accepted into the national juried exhibition of the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in California.  The exhibition, “Content Matters,” features “consequential work that tells stories and captures the attention of visitors.”

My painting is the first in my “Corrected Vision”  series which addresses feeling and seeing and the moment when one’s ideas have finally clarified.  Sometimes we are  blinded by misperception, wishful thinking and faulty logic.  This series of paintings reflects the moment of clarity when truth is revealed.  We have all experienced periods of being mislead or of assuming the best, and I think everyone can empathize with the emotion of finally recognizing the stark truth.

The exhibition’s curator and judge is well-known San Francisco gallerist Jack Fischer.  Thanks to Marin MOCA for the opportunity!  If you’re in the area, stop by and check out the show.  This artwork is for sale.

From the opening night party of the LA Invitational at George Billis Gallery.  The wonderful John Wisor  featured prominently in a collaborative video between myself and artist/videographer/photographer Anthony Dortch (instagram@dortchdesigns).  Soon to be posted here.  The video highlighted another painting in the Corrected Vision series, and luckily enough John turned out to be the perfect model to represent the living subject of the series.  Mirabile dictu!

If you’re in Los Angeles, drop by George Billis Gallery in the Culver City Arts District to see the show, up through August 25.

Artexpo New York City

Washington, DC’s Gallery NK has been representing me at special art fairs outside of town. I was one of a handful of their artists to exhibit at Artexpo New York City on pier 94.  Held during April 14-17, the event drew designers, collectors, and art enthusiasts.

I very much like the way Gallery NK displayed a selection of my new Corrected Vision paintings — all 36″x36″ acrylic on canvas.  Because the gallery boasts a collection of very talented, skilled, and innovative artists from around the world, I consider myself fortunate to be showcasing my own work with them.

In addition to myself, exhibiting artists included Steffen Faisst, Nihal Kececi (Gallery NK owner), Julia Hacker, Alfredo Palmero, Thomas Dodd.

SPECTRUM Miami Art Show with Gallery NK

It’s always exciting to participate in Miami’s sprawling and exciting Art Basel Week.  This will be my third year showing artwork there, and I want to thank Washington, DC’s Gallery NK for featuring my artwork and providing this great opportunity in Miami.  In particular, Owner and Director Nihal Kececi  has been tremendously helpful and supportive.

Gallery NK will be displaying four artworks in my Corrected Vision series — all newly completed in the past 6 months.

Washington, DC artists are always well-received and omnipresent throughout Miami during the week.  Some twenty art fairs, several art museums and tons of galleries, individual artists, and arts aficionados crowd the streets, sidewalks, and beaches.  It is really something!   Honored to be rubbing shoulders with so many art fans and talented artists.

As a reminder, I remain represented at Washington, DC by Susan Calloway Fine Arts in historic Georgetown.

These two striking contemporary pieces will be making the journey to Miami for exhibit at the SPECTRUM Art Show December 2-6, concurrent with exciting Art Basel week.  Should be an exciting and stimulating week from the point of view of artist, collector, and gallerist.  I’m working on a couple of smaller pieces to complement these larger works, but they’re not yet ready for prime time.  More on that later.  In the interim, many thanks to Gallery NK for making this opportunity available.

Washington, DC Artist Leslie Nolan’s “Corrected Vision”

These new paintings are meant to complement Corrected Vision, now on exhibit through August 1 at McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) in its curated and juried exhibit “Strictly Painting.”  Curated by senior curator for modern and contemporary art at The Phillips Collection.

If you miss the MPA show, some or all of these will be in my solo exhibit in September at Susan Calloway Fine Arts, Georgetown.

I like the idea of playing with an idea and carrying it further.  Kind of like expressing a different tone or meaning of the same subject matter.  For these paintings, the subject revolves around one idea:  young or old, it’s easy to develop a blind spot.  Maybe that’s called survival.  Maybe denial.
