This is a small sample of my solo Divergent Impulses at Calloway Fine Art & Consulting in Washington, DC, available online through June 5. All new and exciting figurative work out of my imagination. Most of the 15 paintings featured in the show are 36×48 canvases. I think they make any room in the home or office more interesting.

Washington, DC Artist Leslie M. Nolan in her Virginia studio
These are two paintings from my new series of figures showing women striking the same pose. It proved to be a fun and challenging project. Completely out of my imagination, the figures more than fill the space of the canvas. They’re pink, purple, white, and black with bright-colored backgrounds. By adopting a confident, casual pose each figure exudes energy, independence and freedom. I like the feel of these paintings. They’re diverse, yet similar. They’re bold, yet not in your face. They seem to be celebrating both uniqueness and commonality — appealing concepts for all people.
Corrected Vision 7, 24×24 inches acrylic on canvas, above, has been selected for the collection of Washington, DC via a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. I’m honored for this delightful piece to have been chosen from among the many applicants.

During our cold snap here in Washington, DC over the holidays between visits and dinners and Santa I was able to get in some studio time to do these handsome young men.
Each has style and attitude. Going for a hip, cool urban vibe, I tried to imbue the subjects with relaxed confidence. These would be perfect for any home or office setting that needs refreshening. Happy 2018!

Making new paintings and enjoying the fall light coming in the studio windows. This fabulous sunny weather gives off an aura of well-being, which translates to lively, exciting work.
Forget painstaking, impeccably rendered images. I’m talking free-flowing gestures. Intuitive sweeps of the brush. It feels like endless possibilities.
