Readying for Artifact Gallery Solo

fbcover2017Some of my newest work that will feature in a solo exhibit at New York City’s Artifact Gallery during March 2017.

It’s always challenging to put together a cohesive, yet excitingly surprising exhibit.   Style, canvas size, color, texture, pose, feeling, and theme all contribute to making a consistent message. But, it’s critical to shake things up with punctuation marks that give a rhythmic jolt to the whole.  Like music, visual arts rely on surprise, sparkle, and the unexpected riff for interest and dash.

Once everything has been painted, the critical curatorial step remains:  move the artwork around the space until the show taps out a lively beat with plenty of unanticipated punctuation.

Until then, find my artwork every day at Susan Calloway Fine Arts, in Washington, DC’s trendy, historic Georgetown.

Washington, DC Artist Leslie M. Nolan at SPECTRUM Miami Art Show with Gallery NK

By all accounts the SPECTRUM  Miami Art Show this year was a great success for Gallery NK.  Lots of interest, buyers and commentary by the many patrons/collectors who throng to Art Basel Miami Beach and its 20 satellite fairs during this special week.  The Gallery staff did a great job hanging my wall – it looked amazing.  It’s great to have a professional team taking care of everything.

Spectrum Miami with Gallery NK

After my photographer Jeff Burton made images, these and other recent paintings were wrapped for shipment and taken to Washington, DC’s Gallery NK for the long transport to Florida for Miami Art Week and the SPECTRUM Art Show. Opening tonight this fantastic week coincides with Art Basel Miami Beach and includes activities at 20 satellite art fairs in addition to the giant Art Basel itself.

Gallery NK features international contemporary Fine Art and this year occupies Booth 519 at SPECTRUM.  Located at 700 NE 2nd Avenue in the heart of the arts & entertainment district, SPECTRUM Miami is open from November 30 to December 4.  Stop by and meet Gallery NK’s owner, Nihal Kececi, and the other wonderful artists who she is featuring in her booth this year.

Visit to Athenaeum’s “Oh, the Joy!”

We dropped in to check out the Athenaeum Gallery Invitational Exhibit today and have lunch at the nearby fabulous Restaurant Eve.  My dancing purple hipster high on the wall makes an impact.  Thanks to Athenaeum Executive Director Kelly Mechling for greeting us and taking photos.  This exciting exhibit remains open at 201 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA through Nov 6.  And, don’t forget my solo exhibit there in August 2017!!

New York City With Gallery NK

DisSix

Dis Six by Washington, DC Contemporary Artist Leslie Nolan

Great news — My artwork will be heading to the Big Apple in April.  Yes, New York City for the huge show Art Expo with Gallery NK.    More on this exciting event as we get closer to spring.

Right now I’m getting used to the new studio space.  There is nothing like a pristine clean space and an untouched white canvas to give an artist pause.  It’s somewhat of a daunting prospect. New tarp on the floor, fresh plastic protecting recently drywalled areas, and the painting table formerly used to hold the computer is unmarked, too.  I started slowly with a small painting for a show this May for The Arts Club of Washington, and that allowed me to go farther and really christen the studio this week with spilled and dripped paint from a larger canvas.  The upshot — all feels back to normal and congenial to mark-making.
